But in a world shaped by climate change, resource constraints and growing uncertainty, another question emerges: is performance enough? At Slo, we are increasingly inspired by the concept of robustness, the ability to adapt, evolve and thrive despite changing conditions. Not as a rejection of ambition, but as a different way of defining long-term success.

This study, conducted by Slo and Simont Braun for the Belgian Federal Public Service Economy, explores how companies operating in Belgium perceive and navigate the intersection between sustainability objectives and competition law. Through surveys, interviews, and comparative analysis, it examines the practical challenges businesses face when engaging in collaborative sustainability initiatives, and identifies policy levers to foster cooperation while ensuring legal compliance.

While much of the global focus remains on reducing carbon emissions and scaling renewable energy, another influential force is quietly shaping the climate response: the insurance industry. Traditionally viewed as a mechanism for pricing and transferring risk, insurers are now assuming a broader role, one that helps communities anticipate, adapt to, and recover from climate-related shocks.
